“I love the honesty and emotional directness in his playing and writing. He is his own man. I’m excited to see where his head and heart will take him as he continues to grow. If this recording is any indication, it’s going to be some beautiful places.” – Joe Locke, Vibraphonist/Composer/Educator, NYC Jan 2011
Jazz vibist James Whiting has released his exciting debut album ‘Burbank’. The album consists of eight original jazz-based songs from James, inspired also by fusion, classical, and rock genres. Recorded in Bennett Studios (USA), the album features a variety of New York-based jazz artists: Steve Newcomb – piano (Brisbane/New York), Sam Anning (Perth/Melbourne/New York) – bass, Jon Wikan (New York) – drums, and Stefan Schmid (Germany/New York) – tenor/soprano saxophone.
Named after his home suburb in Brisbane, ‘Burbank’ is a diverse but intimate reflection of James’ experiences thus far: from the fast-paced caper – ‘In Central Park’ – to the meditative ‘Reconnection’.
